Q. Do I need to send you my old turbocharger?
A. No! We manufacture and supply every part of these turbochargers (apart from a few VNT turbocharger models). The sale price is to purchase the product outright.

Q. Do you high flow turbochargers?
A. No, all of our turbocharger range and components are designed from a blank sheet of paper and developed for the desired power range, characteristics and reliability on each specific engine.

Q. Will this turbo bolt straight onto my engine?
A. Yes, every turbocharger is designed to work in with each specific engine model and auxiliaries including the supply of water lines, oil lines, hoses and clamps. Some bolting faces may vary slightly from factory depending on turbine size and flow restriction requirements.

Q. Can I install the turbocharger myself?
A. Yes, if you have the knowledge and skills to install a turbocharger. However the warranty will not cover any associated problems caused by incorrectly installed turbochargers. We highly recommend you use one of our dealers who are trained professionals.

Q. Can I tune the engine myself after installing an Eclipse Turbo Systems turbocharger?
A. No. The performance, fuel economy and reliability can vary significantly from a correctly tuned vehicle, to a poorly tuned vehicle. And as tuning requires the correct equipment, machinery, and skills, we highly recommend you take advantage of our dealer network who can provide for you the best solution and tuning outcome. Keeping a copy of your tuning results is highly recommended.

Q. Do I need to break in this turbocharger?
A. No, every Eclipse Turbo Systems turbocharger is shaft and VSR balanced in house, quality control and full operational load tested and calibration. However, all new turbocharger installations should be inspected closely for any general problems after installation, such as pressure leaks from exhaust manifold or air leaks. Also check for any fluid leaks (water, oil), and/or any audible abnormalities.

Q. Is this turbocharger loud?
A. No, it is very quiet. This result is only achievable when the flow, design and tolerances of the compressor and turbine are matched to the engines requirements, and the turbocharger is balanced properly. Open exhausts will enhance the turbochargers sound if desired.

“Different turbochargers with different characteristics will make difference operating sounds including induction sounds. However some noise can be associated with good and bad characteristics.”

* High pitch noises can be caused from inefficient or badly balanced compressor wheels.
* Turbine noise can be caused from incorrect tolerances or badly designed wheels.
* Choofing noises can be caused from the turbocharger entering the phenomenon known as surge.

Q. Can I increase the boost pressure?
A. Yes, you can increase the boost pressure from how it is received, however it is not permitted to exceed Eclipse Turbo Systems recommended boost range for each model. These turbochargers are capable of very high boost pressures well above our recommended boost pressure criteria, but we design and target specific ranges of torque and power with the correct volumes of turbine and compressor flow, efficiency and turbine back pressure for reliability and safety. Exceeding this limit will result in warranty void.

Q. Why do you use high grade ductile cast iron for your manifolds and turbine housings?
A. OEM turbochargers use Cast Iron (Fe) with around 20% Nickle (Ni). The Nickle is what gives this turbine its heat resistant properties to endure many temperature duty cycles. While many cheaper aftermarket products only use straight Cast Iron (Fe) (cheapest casting material available) that can fatigue and crack after a while. It is very hard to tell the difference between Fe-Ni and plain Fe by a visual inspection. While high quality ductile cast iron (all though a lot more expensive to produce) has natural heat resistant properties higher than OEM specifications. You can have the piece of mind that the turbine housing is thoroughly tested and made to last the test of time.

Q. Do I need an intercooler to run this turbo?
A. No, a intercooler is not 100% required. However, we strongly recommend them. Not only to increase performance, but they can avoid issues associated with less than perfect pipe work and intake designs by increasing the air density.

Q. Is this turbocharger laggy?
A. No, a smooth early and linear entry into spool makes the vehicle more lively and nicer to drive with less wear on diffs, gearboxes, clutches etc, with linear torque across the entire rpm range. With a strong focus on transitions and compressor flow.

Q. Is it dangerous for my turbo diesel engine to run higher than standard boost? and will the engine run hotter?
A. Diesel engines are compression ignition. This means the engine draws and compresses the air causing a temperature increase. Diesel is then injected at a predetermined piston position (timing) into this heated environment igniting the diesel resulting in combustion. Increasing the boost pressure “only” will also increase the volume of air density causing lower combustion temperatures and higher AFR’s (Air Fuel Ratios). Increasing the volume of diesel (tuning) being injected will affect the engines output of power, torque and the engine temperatures. Engine tuning will ensure these values are with-in spec for prolonged engine life and durability.
